Last Wednesday and Thursday, we went to Kyushu Institute of Technology located in Towboat-cu, , in order to measure electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of ultrananocrystalline diamond films. Owing to the kind and attentive direction of Prof. S. Takagi, we could smoothly get accustomed to operating an equipment and obtain reliable data. In parallel, we could be present in a SQUID measurement. The SQUID measurement was made under a collaboration with Prof. Mitto lab.   

Today, an open campus was held. We hold a booth on solar cells, wherein the current status of solar cells was introduced in poster and solar cell toys for kids were demonstrated. Mr. Kawai, who graduated from MC two years ago, visited, and we could have a joyful time together.

Last Friday evening,  our laboratory opened a welcome party for new students at Asahi Beer Garden located in Hakata. We had a joyful time drinking fresh beers produced there and eating roasts. Dr. Sugimaya and Dr. Hanada, who are researches of Res. Center for Synchrotron Light Appl. of Kyushu Univ., and Dr. Takeda, who is a lecturer of Fukuoka Inst. Tech. joined the party and enjoyed together.

Our grad school held an entrance ceremony in our campus today. Four students entered the master's courses of our laboratory. The master's course students came from Kitakyushu National College of Technology, Okinawa College of Technology, and Kumamoto College of Technology (2 persons). This year, all the new students are from national college of technologies.

Today our grad school held conferment ceremonies in our campus. Doctoral and master's degrees were given to 2 and 4 graduates of the laboratory. In the evening, we opened a party to celebrate the graduates, together with Honjo Lab.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday our department had master's thesis interviews. All the M2 students of our lab  had excellent presentations on their researches. Last evening, a dinner party was held in a restaurant in the campus to appreciate their efforts and successes.

This afternoon, Takeda-sensei, who belongs to Fukuoka Institute of Technology, had a doctor thesis public hearing. He has published 3 papers using data in his doctoral course thus far, and completed a doctoral thesis this year. His co-workers of Fukuoka Institute of Technology also attended the hearing. After that, our laboratory held a tea party to congratulate him.

Today the doctor thesis public hearing of Mr. Hanada (D3) was held today. He have been devoted into the doctor thesis research in the master and doctor courses and published five paper as the first author thus far. He had the great presentation that deserves to earn a doctor's degree.

This afternoon, our department had a seminar in which 1st-year master's course (M1) students had mid-reports on the research in oral presentation (presentation 9 min and discussion 5 min.) in front of professors and students of our department. The main purpose is to enhance presentation skills. From our laboratory, Mr. Iwasaki, Mr. Ueda, Mr. Katamune, and Mr. Noda had presentations. After that, a guidance on job hunting was officially held. From this, the 1st-year students that want to enter companies after the master's course become very busy due to job hunting.

Our laboratory attended the annual conference of the Japanese Society for Synchrotron Radiation Research held in Tosu, Saga prefecture. Dr. Tominaga (RA), Ms. Sausan (D1), Mr. Ichinose (M2), Mr. Chen (M2), and Mr. Ueda (M1) had poster presentations. In parallel, the lab students worked for the conference operation and Yoshitake (AP) contributed to the conference operation as an executive committee member.
