12 25 13 We went to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and prayed for the progression of researches and good luck of us. This became a good opportunity to refresh our minds that had been busily occupied.
12 18 13 Yesterday, Mr. Iwasaki, who graduated from master's course last spring, visited as a recruiter of Nippon Steel Corporation and Sumitomo Metal Industries. We were very glad to know that he got accustomed to working and is so happy. We had a joyful time talking and drinking at a Izakaya near a campus.
 
12 17 13 Dr. Promros, who graduated from DC last year and returned to our lab as an internship student last spring, reveived Best Poster Award in International Conference on Advanced Electromaterials 2013, to our happiness.

12 02 13 An annual conference of Japan Society of Applied Physics, Kyushu Chapter was held in Nagasaki University on Nov 30-Dec 1, 2013. Mr. Naragino (D1), Mr. Hanada (M2), Mr. Asai (M1), Dr. Tominaga (RA), and Yoshitake (AP) joined. In addition to the conference, we had a extremely joyful time in a banquet, viewing Nagasaki Bay from Mt. Inasa.

11 29 13 The 15th Cross Straits Symposium on Energy and Environmental Science and Technology，which has been held among Pusan University, Shanghai Shanghai Jiao Tong University, our grad school, was held in Shanghai Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China was held on Nov 25-26, 2013. Mr. Katamune (D1), Mr. Gima (M2), Hanada (M2), and Funasaki (M2) attended and had presentations.
To our happiness, Mr. Funasaki received Best Poster Award!
11 18 13 Mr. Sakai (D2), Mr. Yoshida (D1), Mr. Gima (M2), and Mr. Takahara (M1), had presentation in the 5th Forum on Semiconducting Materials & Devices held in Kumamoto on Nov 16, 2013. Mr. Mr. Hoki and Mr. Kojima, who were students of Yoshida Lab, Kurume NCT, also had presentations under Mr. Yoshida's direction.
10 11 13 From the 2nd semester, four new members were added to our lab. Dr. Shaban, who is a DC graduate from our lab and at present works for Aswan University as an assistant professor, studies in our lab as a visiting researcher financially supported by the Egyptian government until next March. Mr. Abdelrahman, who is an assistant lecturer in Aswan University and is going to enter the doctoral course next April, studies in our lab as a research student from this to until next March. Mr. Yoshida, who is a MC graduate from our lab and at present a research associate of Kurume National College of Technology, start to study as a DC student. Mr. Tarek, who graduated from Arab Academy, Cairo, entered the MC of Green Asia Program. We opened a welcome party in our lab.
 
09 27 13 It was the last day when Dr. Sausan came to the lab before returning to Oman, today. We deeply appreciated her achievement in master and doctoral courses. Dr. Shaban, who came to our lab as a visiting researcher from Aswan University, Egypt, and Mr. Tarek, who graduated from Arab Academy, Egypt, and was going to enter the master's course of our department, joined the farewell tea party.
09 26 13 Mr. Katamune (D1), Mr. T. Hanada (M2), Mr. Gima (M2), and Yoshitake (AP) attend International Conference on SOLID STATE DEVICES AND MATERIALS held at Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk, Fukuoka on Sep. 24-27, 2013. We enjoyed listening many excellent presentations and discussions.
09 21 13 This week, 2013 JSAP-MRS Joint Symposia was held in Doshisha Univ., Kyoto. Dr. Sausan (D3), Mr. Katamune (D1), Mr. T. Hanada (M2), Mr. Gima (M2), and Yoshitake (AP) attended and gave presentations. We mainly joined a couple of symposia on nanodiamond and application of diamond to electric devices, and learned a lot.
09 10 13 Ms. Pao, who came from King Mongkut's Inst. of Tech. Ladkrabang (Thai) to our lab as an internship student last year, dropped by our lab during her travel to Kyushu area. We were very delighted to see again.
09 06 13 Today and yesterday, Prof. Dr. Satoshi Koizumi of National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) gave the 2nd lectures on diamond, particularly the application to electrical devices and recent hot topics such as NV centers. We were attracted by fruitful hot topics. In the evening of yesterday, we had a party at Asahi Beer Garden located in Hakata and spent a joyful time having fresh beers and delicious meats.
08 28 13 On August 22-28, the Campus Asia Program conducted among Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Pusan University, and Kyushu University opened summer school in our campus. As a one of the activities, 5 master's course students (Institut Teknologi Bandung 1 pers., Shanghai Jiao Tong University 1 pers., Pusan University 1 pers., and Kyushu University 2 pers.) had a experimental practice entitled "Photovoltaics comprising nano carbon thin films -- thin film deposition, electrical properties, and photovoltaic characteristics --" in our laboratory. Ms. Sausan (D3) and Mr. katamune (D1) directed the students. The students devoted themselves into the research and completed the practice. Finally, they gave a sophisticated presentation on the practice in front of participates and professors. We will be glad if this become a good experience for their futures.
08 24 13 After the lectures of Prof Koizumi, we opened an annual outdoor BBQ party, together with Honjo lab. The BBQ was so lively owing to more than thirty persons joining. We could spend a joyful time together.
08 23 13 Today and yesterday, Prof. Dr. Satoshi Koizumi, who is a senior chief researcher of Wide Gap Materials Group, National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS), gave lectures on diamond ranging from the fundamental material science to the application to electrical devices. The next lectures is going to given on Sep 5-6. Kindly, Prof. Koizumi gave the lecture partially in English for five Campus Asia students from Pusan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Kyushu University, who are having experimental practices in our lab. Not only the Campus Asia students but also DC students of our department joined the lecture in English and the lecture room was fully occupied. We are attracted by the sophisticated and well-arranged lecture of Prof. Koizumi and looking forward to the next lectures next month.
08 17 13 Today, several graduates and Ms. Miyachi, who had been a secretary until last year, got together. We felt a time slip to several year ago, namely deja vu.
08 02 13 The public hearing of Ms. Sausan's doctor thesis was held in C-Cube today. She has initiated a research on nitrogen-doped ultrananocrystalline diamond films prepared by pulsed laser deposition and remarkably progressed the research owing to her much effort. The novel results have been published in 13 papers such as APEX, JJAP, and Diamond Rel. Mater. as the first author. Today, she had a sophisticated presentation on her doctor thesis. Prof. S. Takagi of Kyushu Institute of Technology and students of Kurume National College of Technology joined externally. After the hearing, we had a tea party to celebrate her at the second floor of C-Cube.
07 30 13 Mr. Funasaki (M2), Mr. Sakai (D1), and Yoshitake (AP) attended APAC Silicides 2013 held in Tsukuba University on July 27-29, 2013. We enjoyed not only the international conference but also delicious beers in Banquet held in Ushiku Shateau.
07 27 13 On July 24-26, Mr. Katamune (D1), Ms. Sausan (D3), and Yoshitake (AP) visited Ikari and Fukuyama Lab of Miyazaki University and measured the life time of photogenerated carriers in ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) films. Owing to the support of Ikari and Fukuyama Lab, the measurements went well. We are looking forward to analyzing data.
 
07 11 13 Yesterday, Mr. Naragino (D1), Mr. Katamune (D1), Ms. Sausan (D3), Dr. Tominaga (RA), and Yoshitake (AP) went to Kyushu Synchrotron Light research Center and measured X-ray photoemission and Near-Edge X-ray Absorption Fine-Structure (NEXAFS) spectra of ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) films in BL 12. Owing to the center staff, Dr. Setoyama, the measurements were successfully done.
07 04 13 From Jun 18, Ms. H. Masuda started to work as a secretary in our laboratory. Yesterday evening, we held a welcome party at a beer garden.
06 28 13 Dr. Ohmagari, who graduated from DC and works for AIST at present, dropped by the laboratory on the way to his parent's home. We could talk about recent days.
06 17 13 On Jun 15, our department opened a softball tournament. To our happiness, our laboratory became vice-champion owing to practices in the evening. In the final game, we were beat by Nishida-Itakura Lab.

To hold the entrance examination of Green Asia Program, Yoshitake went to Cairo together with Prof. Harata last week. The examination was held at the Cairo Office of our university. I could met Dr. Shaban, who got a doctoral degree from our lab four years ago and works for Aswan University as an assistant professor at present, and Mr. Abdel Rahman, who is going to come to our laboratory as a doctoral course student from next year. We visited Arab Academy to advertise the GA Program.
06 04 13 Mr. Katamune (D1), Dr. Tominaga (RA), and Yoshitake (AP) attended E-MRS held in Strasbourg, France on May 27-30, 2013. We could enjoy the conference and beautiful city, Strasbourg.
05 01 13 Dr. Promros, who graduated from the doctoral course of our department and works for King Mongkut's Inst. of Tech. Ladkrabang, Thai at present as a assistant professor, return to our lab as a short internship postdoc researcher. This is financially supported by JICA. We are very glad to see him again.
04 20 13 Yesterday, our laboratory opened a welcome party at a beer garden located in Hakata. Prof. Dr. Miyoshi and Ms. Miyachi, who are previous professor and secretary, joined in addition to several graduates, Dr. Takeda, Dr. Hanada, and Mr. Yoshida. Owing to their attendance, the party became a homey atmosphere and we could spend joyful and relax time together. To our happiness, Dr. Takeda was promoted from a lecturer to associate professor in Fukuoka Institute of Technology this month. We celebrated him very much!

Our grad school had an entrance ceremony in our campus today. Two students entered the master's and doctor's courses of our laboratory, respectively. Both new master's course students came from Kumamoto College of Technology, and the new doctor's course students came from Yamaguchi University and our laboratory of Kyushu University.

Yesterday, Our grad school held conferment ceremonies in our campus. Doctoral and master's degrees were given to 3 and 4 graduates from our laboratory including graduates last September. In the evening, we opened a party to celebrate the graduates, together with Honjo Lab. To our happiness, Mr. Katamune (M2) and Mr. Iwasaki received department awards, which were given to top students!
 
03 25 13 On March 23-24, our lab members took a trip to Mt. Aso and Takachiho by cars. We enjoyed sightseeing and had a relax and joyful time. We could release stresses accumulated from the end of last year to these days.

This Monday and Tuesday, we measured ESR spectra of UNCD films at Kyushu Institute of Technology located in Kitakyushu. Under Prof. S. Takagi's direction, we made possible the estimation of absolute values of spin densities in UNCD films. We deeply appreciate his kind direction.

 03 01 13 Dr. Ohmagari (PD) and Mr. Hanada (M1) attended Hasselt Diamond Workshop 2013 held in Hasselt University on Feb 27 - Mar 1, 2013, and had poster presentations there. They could learn a lot from many high-level presentations and discussions.
02 15 13 Our department held a doctoral course entrance examination and master's thesis interviews. All M2 members excellently had presentations and discussions. This evening, a dinner party was held in a campus to appreciate their efforts and successes.
02 12 13 Mr. Noda (M2) and Mr. Katamune (M2) received student presentation awards of an annual conference of Kyushu Chapter, the Japan Society of Applied Physics, held at Saga University last December. We congratulated their receiving the awards!
02 04 13 Mr. Katamune, who is going to enter a doctoral course, was selected as Research Fellowships for Young Scientists of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). We celebrated him.
