12 21 21 On Dec 19-21, Uchida-kun (M1), Nishikawa-kun (M2), Takeichi-kun (D2), and Yoshitake (AP) did X-ray photoemission and Near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure spectroscopic measurements at beamline 12 of Saga-LS/Kyushu Synchrotron Light Research Center. To investigate structural factors that affect the minority-carrier life time, the measurements were carried our for B-doped nanocrystalline diamond with different hydrogen contents. Thanks to Dr. Kobayashi of BL12 staff, the experiments went well.


In parallel, Ishimoto-kun (M1) and Kudo-kun (M2) visited Research Institute for nanodevice and Bio Systems, Hiroshima University, and did device fabrication including electron lithography and SIMS measurements. Owing to Prof. Tabei and staffs,they could complete the experiments. We deeply appreciate them.
Dec 9 17 Kudo-kun (M2), Takeichi-kun (D2), and Yoshitake (AP) attended the 11th International Symposium on Atomic Level Characterizations for New Materials and Devices '17 (ALC17) held at Kauai Beach Resort Hotel, Kauai Island, Hawaii on Dec 3-8, 2017. We gave two poster presentations respectively. We were so sorry that although we were going to have oral presentations, they are changed to poster presentations due to their times being very close to the departure time of a flight for returning. At the conference, we happened to be together with Yasukohchi-san and Sakiyama-kun of the same department. We enjoyed sightseeing Kauai Island in the excursion..
Dec 3 17 The 2nd Asian Applied Physics Conference(Asian-APC) and JSAP Kyushu Chapter annual meeting were held at Miyazaki Kanko Hotel, Miyazaki City on Dec 1-2 and 2-3, respectively, under the sponsorship of JSAP Kyushu Chapter. Ishimoto-kun (M1), Eslam-san (M2), Nogami-kun (M2), Murasawa-san (D1), and Yoshitake (AP) attended. The students gave presentations on their researches. In addition, Dr. Sakai of NIT Kurume College and Dr. Promros of King Mongkut's Inst. of Techn. Ladkrabang had presentations as coworkers. The students concentrated the preparation of the presentations before the conferences and gave great presentations and discussion at the conferences.
In the excursion of Asian-APC, we enjoyed sightseeing Horikiri Pass, Udo Shrine, and Aoshima.
Dec 1 17 The 19th Cross Straits Symposium on Energy and Environmental Science and Technology (CSS-EEST 19) was held in our campus from Nov 29 to Dec 1, 2017. This year, the 2017 Green Asia International Seminor was jointly held. Nishikawa-kun (M2), Kudo-kun (M2), and Ali-san (M2) gave poster presentations at CSS-EEST 19 and Takeichi-kun (D2) had a poster presentation at Green Asia Seminor.
To our happiness, Kudo-kun reveived Outstanding Paper Award for his poster presentation.
Nov 24 17 Dr. Abdelrahman came from Aswan University, Egypt on Nov 23 to work in our lab as a JSPS International Fellowship for two years. He will do a research on the application of nanodiamond films to photovoltaivs.
Nov 21 17 On Nov 21, Yoshitake visited OSG Co Ltd and had a meeting on JST A-STEP research project. I could have an opportunity to meet graduates, Gima-kun, Ishimoto-ku, and Nakashima-kun, in a dinner. They looked highly motivated to work for OSG.
Nov 16 17 Ishizaka-kun (M2), Tsumagari-kun (M2), and Yoshitake (AP) measured neutron reflectivity spectra of Fe-Si superlattice films at beamline 14 (Sharaku) of Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) located in Tokai-mura, Ibaraki on Nov 10-15, 2017. The measurement could successfully be carried out owing to the support of Dr. Hanashima (Cross Tokai). We obtained unexpected data worthwhile to be analyzed similarly to a previous experiment in May. Although we we got so tired because the returning was delayed by a day due to the cancellation of a flight from Narita to Fukuoka, totally we could enjoy the experiments and local dishes.
Nov 1 17 OIST Diamond Workshop was held at OIST in Okinawa from Oct 29 to Nov 1, 2017. Takeichi-kun (D2) and Yoshitake (AP) attended from our lab and had oral presentations. We were together with Dr. Ohmanari (AIST) and Dr. Katamune (Kyushu Inst Techn) that graduated from our lab. We could enjoy the workshp.

Oct 20 17 On Octorber 19 and 20, 2017, International Exchange and Innovation Conference on Engineering & Sciences (IEICES 2017) was held at Chikushi Hall in our campus. Nishikawa-kun (M2) joined from our laboratory and had an oral presentation.
 
Oct 16 17 To our happiness, Takeichi-kun (D2) was selected as a JSPS Young Research Fellow (DC2)! His daily efforts were rewarded.
Oct 15 17 On October 13, Ishimoto-kun (M1), Kudo-kun (M2), Takeichi-kun (D2), and Yoshitake (AP) visited Research Institute of Nanodevice and Bio Systems, Hiroshima University to fabricate lateral-type spin valve junctions by electron lithography. Under the direction of MEXT Nanotechnology Platform members comprising Prof. Yokoyama-sensei, Associate Professor Tabei-sensei, Sato-san, Yamada-san, and Okada-san, the experiments were successively completed. We deeply appriciate their kind supports.
The next day, we enjoyed sightseeing in Miyajima Island.

Oct 11 17 Today, Dr. Hanashima of Cross Tokai visited our lab to have a meeting on neutron reflectivity measurements of Fe-Si multilayered films next month. He gave a comprehensive lecture on neutron reflectivity measurements and suggested the optimum methods of the next measurements.
Sep 9 17 The 78th JSAP Autumn Meeting was held at Fukuoka Convention Center on September 5-8, 2017. Nishikawa-kun (M2) and Uchida-kun (M1) had oral and poster presentations, respectively. In addition, concerning collaboration researches, Dr. Sakai of Kurume College had a oral presentation, and Dr. Hanashima of Cross Tokai and Dr. Yoshida of Fukuoka Prefectural Research Institute had poster presentations. Yoshitake contributed to the conference as a member of a steering commette.

Aug 25 17 To refresh our mind for many events from this, lab members that desired to refresh visited Dazaifu Shrine and prayed together. It was so hot, that we could have shaved ices deliciously.
 
Aug 23 17 To our great happiness, an grant application on nanodiamond hard coating with OSG Co. Ltd. was accepted by to JST A-STEP Stage II ! For 4 years including this year, the hard coating group members of our lab will devote ourselves to this project.

Aug 17 17 Abdelrahman-san (D3) had a doctor thesis defense at C-Cube Room 303 this morning. He has a great presentation on his doctor thesis research. After the defense, we celebrated his big efforts. From this, he will temporally go back to Egypt. And then he returned to Japan again in December and do a new research at our laboratory as a JSPS Fellowship for two years.
 
 
Aug 1 17 To our happiness, Abdelrahman-san (D3) was selected as a JSPS Fellowship for Reserch in Japan. Although he was going to return to Egypt after getting a doctor degree and restart to work for Aswan University as a lecturer, the plan is changed due to his being selected. He will continuously study at our laboratory for two years more, finantially supported by JSPS.

Jul 31 17 For Dr. Promros and his six students who come from Department of Physics, King Mongkut's Inst. of Techn. Ladkrabang, Thailand, we opened a farewell party at Asahi Beer Garden located in Hakata. We could enjoy drinking fresh beers and eating delicious grilled meats.

Jul 19 17 This afternoon, Dr. H. Leu, Dr. C. Liang, and three students of Feng Chia University, Taiwan, visited our lab. We could have a valuable discussion.
 
 Jul 7 17 Kyushu University Educational Innovation Symposium 2017 was held at Shiiki Hall of Ito Campus on July 10, 2017. Dr. Gima, who graduated from DC last March, gave a presentation as a representative of a graduate from Green Asia Program.

Jul 6 17 Dr. Promros and his six students came to our lab as a visiting researcher and internship students from Department of Physics, King Mongkut's Inst. of Techn. Ladkrabang, Thailand on July 3, 2017. Today, we opened a welcome tea party at the laboratory and communicated with each other.
 
Jun 23 17 On June 20-23, Takeichi-kun (D2), Egiza-san (D1), Ishimoto-kun (M1), and Yoshitake (AP) measured X-ray photoemission and near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure spectra of ultrananocrystalline diamond films at beamline 12 of Kyushu Synchrotron Light Research Center/Saga-LS. Owing to the kind technical support of Dr. Kobayashi, we could complete the measurement as planned.
 
 Jun 8 17 The SPINTECH IX (International School and Conference) was held at Fukuoka Convention Center on Jun 4-8, 2017. Kudo-kun (M2) and Takeichi-kun (D2) had poster presentations. In addition, Dr. Sakai of NIT Kurume College and Dr. Hanashima of Cross Tokai also had poster presentations as coauthors.
 Jun 2 17 The 11th Conference on New Diamond and Nano Carbons was held in Cairns, Australia on May 28-June 1, 2017. Abdelrahman-san (D3) had a presentation there. The travel fee was supported by Kyushu University Foundation. The release of a visa from Australia Embassy was so late, which made us be anxious.
May 31 17 On 24-30, May, 2017, Ishizaka-kun (M2) and Yoshitake (AP) took neutron reflectivity spectra measurements to investigate interlayer coupling in Fe3Si/FeSi2 superlattices at beamline 17 (Sharaku) of J-PARC located at Tokai-mura, Ibaragi. The measurement was carried out well owing to the technical support of beamline staffs, Dr. Hanashima and Dr. Miyata. We deeply appriciate their kind support, direction, and valuable advices. The next measurement will be made this November.
 
May 13 17 On May 13, an open campus was held annually. We opened our booth at the third floor of C-Cube. There, we demonstrated ice cutting with a diamond plate to make visitors realize the highest thermal conductivity of diamond among materials.
May 10 17 Dr. Hanashima of Cross Tokai visited our lab to have a discussion on a colaboration research on May 10-12. We had a welcome dinner in Hakata and enjoyed having raw fishes and shochu.
 
Apr 7 17 Two master and one bachelor students newly added to our lab members. The MC students came from Kumamoto National College of Technology and Kurume National College of Technology. This evening, our lab opened a welcome party at Asahi Beer garden located in Hakata.
Mar 24 17 Today, a commencement ceremony was held. Nakashima-kun and Kishimoto-kun got master's degree and Gima-kun got doctor degree. After the ceremony, we opened a celebration dinner party for the graduates.

Mar 23 17 On Mar 23, 2017, we went on a graduation trip to Ohshima Island located in Munakata city. Munakata Shrine is going to be registered as a World Heritage Site this year. We enjoyed sightseeing in Ohshima Island. In the evening, we enjoyed eating steaks at a classy restaurant located near Fukutsu Seaside.

Mar 16 17 Japan Society of Applied Physics Spring Meeting was held at Pacific Yokohama on March 14-17, 2017. Gima-kun (D3) and Nishikawa-kun (M1) gave oral and poster presentations, respectively. In addition, Dr. Yoshida of Fukuoka Prefuctural Institute and Dr. Hanashima of Cross Tokai gave oral presentations as coauthors. We met Dr. Naragino of Yamaguchi University, who graduated from our lab last year and could talk about our recent days.

Mar 8 17 Yoshitake(AP) visited Prof. Simon Ringer Lab of Sydney University wherein Takeichi-kun (D1) is studying as an internship student under the direction of Dr. Anna Ceguerra and.Nomoto-kun, who graduated from our lab, works at present. We were so delighted to have a discussion on a collaboration research from this. Sydney city and Sydney University are so attractive.
  
Feb 28 17 Dr. Tominaga retired from Kyushu University and moved to Okayama University. 
Feb 18 17 On Feb 15-17, Nano Tech 2017 was held at Tokyo Bigsite. Owing to Kyushu Synchrotron Light Research Center, our research on nanocrystalline diamond hard coating by coaxial arc plasma deposition was introduced in the booth of Kyushu Synchrotron Light Research Center. Since the period overlapped with the master thesis defense of our department, Gima-kun (D3) joined as a representative of our laboratory..
Feb 17 17 The master thesis defense of our department was held on Feb 15-16, and a banquet held in celebration of the master thesis defense completement was opened in the evening today. Kishimoto-kun (M2) and Nakashima-kun (M2) gave great presentations.
To our happiness, Kudo-kun (M1) received a presentation award from tyhe annual conference of the Japan Society of Applied Physics Kyushu Chapter held in Tsushima. His daily efforts was rewarded.
Feb 3 17 To our happiness, Gima-kun (D3) received a bronze medal from Young Researcher Support Program of Kyushu University Energy Week.

Feb 2 17 The doctor thesis defense of Gima-kun (D3) was held this morning. He gave a great presentation on his research for five years. he is going to work for OSG Corp. Ltd as a researcher from April.

Jan 31 17 Takeichi-kun (D1) left for Sydney University to do an internship today. He will do experimental researches under Prof. Simon Ringer, Dr. Anna Cequerra, and Mr. Nomoto who graduated from our lab and is a D3 student of the University of New South Wales.
Jan 24 17 Hanada-kun (D3) left for Hokkaido University today. He is going to work for Kaneko Lab of Hokkaido University as a researcher from April. He leaves without getting a doctor degree and will make an effort to submit his doctor thesis as early as possible..
Jan 20 17 Egiza-san(D1), Takeichi-kun (D1), Hanada-kun (D3), and Yoshitake (AP) measured the X-ray photoemission and near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure spectra of ultrananocrystalline diamond films at beamline 12 of the Saga-LS. The measurements could be completed owing to the technical support and advices of Dr. Yoshimura of Saga-LS.
