| Nov | 14 | 25 | The 39th Diamond Symposium was held at the Noda Campus of Tokyo University
of Science from Wednesday, November 12 to Friday, November 14. Mr. Misono
(M2), Mr. Ikuyama (M2), Mr. Watanabe (M2), and Mr. Shiraga (M2) presented
posters. Among the staff, Assistant Professor Narakino and Professor Yoshitake
attended the symposium. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Misono received
the Best Poster Award. Next year’s Diamond Symposium will be hosted by
our laboratory and held at the Chikushi Campus of Kyushu University.![]() |

| Nov | 5 | 25 | The Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences is jointly
conducting a JICA research project with the Egypt–Japan University of Science
and Technology (EJUST). Representatives from EJUST—including Vice President
Professor Sameh Nada, Dean Professor Mona Gamal Eldin, Head of the Energy
Engineering Program Professor Hamdy AboAli, Head of the Environmental Engineering
Program Professor Hassan Shokry, and Head of the Petrochemical Engineering
Program Professor Usama Eldermerdash—visited us to discuss future collaboration.
After giving them a tour of our laboratory, we showed them around Dazaifu,
and in the evening we further deepened discussions on our colaboration
over dinner. ![]() |

| Oct | 30 | 25 | The Taiwan Association for Coating and Thin Film Technology (TACT) 2025
was held in Taipei from October 26 to 29. Associate Professor Abdelrahman
and Professor Yoshitake delivered invited talks, and Mr. Orabi (D2) and
Mr. Mohamed (M2) gave oral presentations. ![]() On October 29, instead of participating in the TACT 2025 excursion, we held a workshop with our collaborative partner, National Taiwan University. We shared reports on the progress of our research, making it a very productive meeting. In the evening, we held a social gathering, which allowed us not only to exchange ideas but also to deepen our friendship. ![]() |

| Oct | 9 | 25 | Professor Yueh-Lien Lee of National Taiwan University visited our university
for discussions on collaborative research. Taking advantage of this opportunity,
he also gave a lecture for students. We were able to deepen our understanding
of efforts to improve the corrosion resistance of Mg–Al alloys. ![]() |

| Sep | 25 | 25 | It is an honor that Dr. Diab, a graduate of our doctoral program, delivered
the valedictory address at the university-wide degree conferral ceremony
held at Shiiki Hall on the Ito Campus. From October, he will work as a
postdoctoral researcher at AIST Kyushu. https://www.kyushu-u.ac.jp/en/topics/view/663 ![]() Ms. Ou Hong-Yu (M2), an internship student from Feng Chia University in Taiwan, has come to Japan. In addition, Ms. Hend Ali Mohamed Elshabrawy, who will enroll in the doctoral program (MEXT schol. stud. of IEI Prog.) starting next month, has also arrived in Japan from Zewail University of Science and Technology in Egypt. In the evening, we held a welcome and farewell party in our laboratory. |

| Sep | 18 | 25 | From September 16 to 18, Mr. Gunjo Miyawaki from Kagoshima College, National
Institute of technology joined us for a three-day internship, considering
application to the College Cooperative Program. Together with the laboratory
members, he conducted experiments on visible-light sensing using diamond. |

| Sep | 10 | 25 | The Autumn Meeting of the Japan Society of Applied Physics was held at Meijo University from September 7 to 10. Presentations were mainly given by the M2 students—Mr. Ikeyama, Mr. Shiraga, Mr. Misono, and Mr. Watanabe—as well as Mr. Ikegami (M1). This year’s extreme heat made the travel very exhausting. | |||
| Aug | 22 | 25 | From Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 22, a summer school was held in
collaboration with National Sun Yat-sen University, Feng Chia University,
National University of Tainan, and our Graduate School of Science and Engineering.
During the first three days, participants were divided into several laboratories
to conduct research training. Our laboratory hosted five students, who
gained hands-on experience in evaluating diamond as a chemical electrode.
The training was led by Assistant Professor Narakino, with support provided
by Mr. Sotozono (M2) and Mr. Watanabe (M2). ![]() Professor Yoshitake gave one of the three morning lectures held over the three days. ![]() On the fourth day, oral presentations were held as part of the workshop. From our laboratory, Professor Yoshitake, Mr. Misono (M2), and Mr. Shiraga (M2) each gave a 20-minute oral presentation. ![]() On the final day, poster presentations were held as part of the workshop. From our laboratory, Mr. Sotozono (M2), Mr. Ikeyama (M2), and Mr. Watanabe (M2) presented their work. We are pleased to report that Mr. Watanabe received the Outstanding Poster Presentation Award. ![]() |

The 18th International Conference on New Diamond and Nanocarbon (NDNC2025)
was held at Beacon Plaza in Beppu from May 11 to 15, 2025. As the conference
was held in Kyushu, our laboratory contributed to its operation as well
as presenting our research.![]() ![]() |

| May | 10 | 25 | Today, an open campus event was held at the Chikushi Campus. An event related
to diamonds was held on the first floor of Building D. Many students will
be participating in an international conference in Beppu starting tomorrow,
so B4 and M1 students were mainly in charge of running the event. |

Aswan University, and Osama, an intern from EJUST, to return to Egypt.

| Mar | 25 | 25 | The degree conferment ceremony was held today. From our laboratory, three students in the Major of Device Science and Engineering completed their master's programs. Two thesis students from the Department of Interdisciplinary Engineering and one thesis student from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science graduated. (Mr. Katsura (M2) and Mr. Ishimatsu (B4) could not make it in time for the following photo shoot.) ![]() Mr. Ikegami (B4) was awarded as the top student in the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Course of the Department of Interdisciplinary Engineering. In the evening, we moved to a sushi/shabu-shabu restaurant near the university to celebrate the graduation. ![]() |

trip. We couldn't climb to the top of Mt. Misen because the ropeway was
being fixed, but we were able to take our time and look around Itsukushima.
We ate delicious okonomiyaki with oysters and beer there! |
