Sep 18 25 From September 16 to 18, Mr. Gunjo Miyawaki from Kagoshima College, National Institute of technology joined us for a three-day internship, considering application to the College Cooperative Program. Together with the laboratory members, he conducted experiments on visible-light sensing using diamond.
Sep 10 25 The Autumn Meeting of the Japan Society of Applied Physics was held at Meijo University from September 7 to 10. Presentations were mainly given by the M2 students—Mr. Ikeyama, Mr. Shiraga, Mr. Misono, and Mr. Watanabe—as well as Mr. Ikegami (M1). This year’s extreme heat made the travel very exhausting.
Aug 22 25 From Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 22, a summer school was held in collaboration with National Sun Yat-sen University, Feng Chia University, National University of Tainan, and our Graduate School of Science and Engineering. During the first three days, participants were divided into several laboratories to conduct research training. Our laboratory hosted five students, who gained hands-on experience in evaluating diamond as a chemical electrode. The training was led by Assistant Professor Narakino, with support provided by Mr. Sotozono (M2) and Mr. Watanabe (M2).

Professor Yoshitake gave one of the three morning lectures held over the three days.

On the fourth day, oral presentations were held as part of the workshop. From our laboratory, Professor Yoshitake, Mr. Misono (M2), and Mr. Shiraga (M2) each gave a 20-minute oral presentation.

On the final day, poster presentations were held as part of the workshop. From our laboratory, Mr. Sotozono (M2), Mr. Ikeyama (M2), and Mr. Watanabe (M2) presented their work. We are pleased to report that Mr. Watanabe received the Outstanding Poster Presentation Award.
Aug 8 25 Today, the doctoral thesis defense of Ali and Diab was held. They presented the results of their three years of doctoral research in an outstanding manner.

In the evening, we celebrated the success of the public hearing and commended their efforts.

Jul 31 25 We celebrated the acceptance of Abe-kun (B4) and Hatano-kun (B4) into the master's program at graduate school by having a takoyaki party in the lab.

The 18th International Conference on New Diamond and Nanocarbon (NDNC2025) was held at Beacon Plaza in Beppu from May 11 to 15, 2025. As the conference was held in Kyushu, our laboratory contributed to its operation as well as presenting our research.

May 10 25 Today, an open campus event was held at the Chikushi Campus. An event related to diamonds was held on the first floor of Building D. Many students will be participating in an international conference in Beppu starting tomorrow, so B4 and M1 students were mainly in charge of running the event.

May 9 25 It was time for Associate Professor Hussain, a visiting professor from Aswan University, and Osama, an intern from EJUST, to return to Egypt. We held a farewell tea party in the laboratory.

Apr 4 25
A BBQ was held in the courtyard of the Chikushi campus as a welcome party for new students. Since Islamic Ramadan had ended, it was a lively party attended by almost everyone.

Mr. Kazuki Abe and Mr. Yuki Hatano (from left to right in the photo below) have been assigned as graduation thesis students from the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Course, Department of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

Apr 4 3 The entrance ceremony was held today. Four students have enrolled in the master's course. From left to right in the photo below, they are Mr. Yuto Ikegami, Mr. Shota Kikumoto, Mr. Daiyo Nakahara, and Ms. Lining Lou. 4 of them are from Department of Interdisciplinary Engineering of Kyushu University, Department of Electronic Information Systems Engineering of Kumamoto National College of Technology, and Xi'an University of Technology.
Mar 25 25 The degree conferment ceremony was held today. From our laboratory, three students in the Major of Device Science and Engineering completed their master's programs. Two thesis students from the Department of Interdisciplinary Engineering and one thesis student from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science graduated. (Mr. Katsura (M2) and Mr. Ishimatsu (B4) could not make it in time for the following photo shoot.)

Mr. Ikegami (B4) was awarded as the top student in the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Course of the Department of Interdisciplinary Engineering.

In the evening, we moved to a sushi/shabu-shabu restaurant near the university to celebrate the graduation.
Mar 1 25 We are happy to announce that Mr. Ali (D3) received Presentation Award of the 28th (FY2024) Kyushu Chapter of the Japan Society of Applied Physics.

Feb 25 25 As part of our yearly graduation trip, we went to Itsukushima on a day trip. We couldn't climb to the top of Mt. Misen because the ropeway was being fixed, but we were able to take our time and look around Itsukushima. We ate delicious okonomiyaki with oysters and beer there!
Feb 19 24 This plenary meeting of this week was the last time that Mr. Natakorn and Mr. Mostafa attended. We took a group photo to commemorate the occasion.
Feb 17 24 A farewell party was held at a restaurant near the campus for Natakorn (a short-term visiting student from King Mongkut's University of Technology) and Mostafa (a special research student from EJUST) before they returned to their home countries. We took a joyful time eating delicious meals.
